It had been a long while since Tessa had been here, but she could have sworn she remembered every last grain of sand. The sunlight struck her across the face, glaring her view, as she stared across the ocean, rolling a pebble around her hand. All at once, sunny beach-days were recalled and she smiled, ignoring the ache that it brought. She shouldn't stay long. She'd have to get back, and it was a long journey, but she couldn't resist taking a trip out here. The idea had sparked itself a week ago, and the first chance she got to sneak away, she did. But there would be no use in making Mother worry.
She threw the pebble sideways into the crystalline water, and watched it skip before dissapearing beneath the foam.
Surely she could afford to stay just a little longer?
She walked a little way away from the waves, and sat down on an empty spot of beach, taking off her shoes which she tossed to the side. She was dressed in her practice gear, for it was simply more convenient; shorts, a tank top, her daggers hooked in loops at her sides.
She closed her eyes for a moment, relaxed, and lay back on the sand for what she only intended to be a moment. However, it became much more, her eyes shutting as she slipped away into sleep in the hot sun.
